Respiratory Drug Delivery Europe 2015 - In Review
RDD Europe celebrated its tenth anniversary in Antibes, France, May 5-8, 2015, with an innovative program of podium speakers, a variety of workshops, and a scientific poster and technology exhibition. Highlighting novel approaches to respiratory drug delivery and bringing together participants from across the globe, the Respiratory Drug Delivery® symposium reaffirmed its place as a leading international conference at the forefront of pulmonary and nasal pharmaceutical development. RDD strives always to deliver value by bringing the best and brightest together and RDD Europe 2015 succeeded in that.
The meeting, co-organized by RDD Online and Aptar Pharma, hosted 440 participants from 31 countries around the world, including delegates from Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Americas. Delegates represented various science and business functions within academia, generics, pharma, biotech, legal and regulatory.
The conference opened with a well received plenary address by Dr. Bruce Rubin on "Aerosol Therapy for Children: Unhelpful Myths and Future Directions" Twenty-one additional speakers spoke on their latest research and thoughts about the industry's future ranging from inhaled insulin to global patent practice, which included live translation from Chinese to English. Additional sessions explored advances in nasal drug delivery and particle engineering strategies. A forward looking presentation by Richard Dalby explored where inhaler technology could take manufacturers in the future, and addressed what we can learn from other medical devices. The final session considered the sale of asthma inhalers over the counter with viewpoints presented from FDA, clinicians and a reclassification specialist - as well as a lively debate with the audience.
Companies, universities and regulatory groups presented 64 posters covering novel therapies, formulations, devices and characterization approaches for inhaled products. In the same location, delegates at RDD Europe 2015 had the opportunity to visit 60 exhibitors showcasing their products and innovations at the Technology Exhibition, with ample opportunities for networking. This exhibition brings together representatives of the world’s pharmaceutical companies active in the nasal and pulmonary areas with their suppliers, service providers and regulators in a relaxed atmosphere that facilitates easy communication.
The half-day Workshop sessions continue to be a popular feature at RDD Europe conferences offering interactive discussions and demonstrations in a small group environment.
Peer-reviewed presentations by all speaker and poster presenters at RDD Europe 2015 were summarized and provided to each conference participant either in a two-volume set of books or as electronic access in the form of a one-year subscription to the entire RDD archives, over 2000 articles. RDD articles, available as instant downloads from a comprehensive, searchable database, have become a frequently cited source of quality information to which numerous institutions and individuals subscribe worldwide.
And the tenth anniversary of RDD Europe was celebrated in style at the Thursday evening Gala Dinner "en blanc," with delegates decked out in white attire on a picture-perfect night at the Plage des Pirates.
You'll hear it first at RDD, and we encourage you to attend our next meeting.
