Abstract:
Cascade impactors (CIs) are widely used to characterize the aerodynamic particle size distribution (APSD) of drug emissions from dry powder inhalers (DPIs). Yet, there are inherent practical challenges to be confronted when performing these tests. In addition, different objectives for DPI testing can lead to confusion when selecting the appropriate testing methodology and, subsequently, interpreting the test results. This article provides recommendations for CI testing of such inhalers, focusing on the hardware and testing methodology.
