Abstract:
The process by which inhalable particles are created through the evaporation of microdroplets needs to be understood and controlled to ensure optimal performance of pharmaceutical inhalation products. This contribution points out that particle formation kinetics in systems containing crystallizing components can have a strong impact on particle properties that are important for critical product attributes. Consequently, process development, scale-up, and even device design need to be informed by a mechanistic understanding of the underlying particle formation processes.
