Abstract:
Realistic nasal airway models have been employed to estimate the in vitro nasal deposition profile of nasal spray products. Standardization of the nasal airway model geometry and test methods will contribute to the development of this approach as a regulatory tool for assessing new and generic nasal sprays. The spray release position within the anterior nose and use of an inhalation flow profile during in vitro testing were observed to influence the regional nasal drug deposition. Realistic test method protocols should be based on recommended patient use information and in vitro experimental conditions should be carefully controlled if reproducible results are to be obtained.
