Abstract:
Nose-to-brain (N2B) transport is a promising field which may provide a solution to the significant difficulties in delivering emerging brain therapies into the central nervous system where they can achieve the desired activity. Insufficient appraisal of the inherent challenges imposed by the complex nasal anatomy and physiology has slowed progress in this field. With increased recognition of these hurdles, new nasal delivery devices have been designed to enable more targeted delivery to the sites innervated by the cranial nerves that offer direct pathways from nose to the brain. Progress in nasal device performance, alone or in combination with novel formulation strategies, represents a key factor for future success.
